Kalpana Patowary (Assamese: কল্পনা পাটোৱাৰী) is an Indian folk singer from Assam. She is a disciple of Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan and has been influenced by Bhupen Hazarika. She participated in the reality show ''Junoon - Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka'' (2008) on NDTV Imagine. Kalpana Patowary has lent her vocals to numerous Bhojpuri songs and Bollywood numbers in films like ''Billu'' and ''R. Rajkumar'' and Assamese films like ''Ahetuk''. == Early life and background ==

Kalpana Patowary was born on 27 October 1978 in Barpeta district in Assam.
A graduate in English literature from Cotton College, Assam and Visharad in Indian Classical Music (vocal) under Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth, Lucknow in 1996, a regular artist Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati, Assam as well as All India Radio (yuba bani) Guwahati, Assam since 1992.
Trained in Assamese folk music by her father Sri Bipin Patowary, an accomplished folk singer himself, Kalpana Patowary also trained as Sangeet Visharad in Indian classical music at Bhatkhande Music Institute, Lucknow. Kalpana Patowary has a stunning five-octave range and signature vocal abilities, and has been hailed as a prodigy in the world of Bhojpuri music. She has mastered and presented in a new way many forms of Bhojpuri music such as Urvi, Pachra, Kajri, Sohar, Vivaah geet, Chaita, and Nautanki.
